Myles Gutierrez is a composer and performer from San Bernardino, California.

Art is my passion; composing is my medium of expressing this genuine love. I strive to not only create music, but art that contains elaborate depth and personal meaning.

Compositions

Below are three recent compositions I have created in completion of my honors music theory course. You may click on each picture to view a PDF of the full score, or click on “Listen now” to view a video of the score accompanied by an MP3 of the piece.

Zermatt

“I have taken my stand on the bases of peninsulas and on the highest embedded rocks, to cry thence: Salut Au Monde!” - Walt Whitman

“Zermatt” illustrates both the incomparable solitude and wonder that nature allows us to experience. The piece navigates the dynamic of this relationship through two brief movements, one in a meter of 6/8, the latter in 3/4.

Seven Bowls

Based on the Seven Bowls of God’s wrath in Revelation 16, this composition explores the uneven feeling of a 7/4 time signature, and the ominous quality of the D harmonic minor scale. Due to the various instruments incorporated throughout, the piece is intended for a full orchestra.

Ritmo Del Cocodrilo Cubano

From Pérez Prado, to Tito Puente, to Eddie Palmieri, the genre of Latin Mambo has piqued my interest as a musician and a composer. This brief piece experiments with the techniques and styles I learned from listening to and studying Mambo music.

In addition to composing, my high school career has consisted of numerous professional performances, and an internship teaching middle and high school students how to play the guitar and drums.

As a guitarist, I have had the opportunity to perform at venues such as the Saban in Beverly Hills, the Canyon of Montclair, the Grove of Anaheim, and the Yucaipa Performing Arts Center. I have also played at theme parks such as Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm several times. Through these experiences, I have opened up for professonal bands such as The Temptations, Plain White T’s, Ambrosia, Tierra, and Malo.
